Eugene Martin
President & Chief Executive Officer
Mr. Eugene Martin is President and Chief Executive Officer of Security Management Consulting, Inc. with more than 33 years of experience in the energy business. Eugene is recognized world wide as a visionary security professional with extensive experience in managing multiple corporate functions. His proven skills, talents and capabilities are in areas of managing top nuclear security programs and management of business operations.
Prior to joining Security Management Consulting, Inc., Eugene held various management and leadership positions at Progress Energy during his impressive 26 years of service. In addition, he was employed for more than 9 years in the Nuclear Mechanical Engineering Department at Tennessee Valley Authority.
He graduated from Shaw University summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management.
Mr. Martin is a Deacon at North Haven Church in Raleigh. www.northhavenraleigh.org

Denise Martin
Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer
As Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Security Management Consulting, Inc., Denise is responsible for providing vision and direction for the company’s growth and quality control for all financial activity and day-to-day operations. In her role as CFO, Denise oversees the financial activities and business operations of a growing firm of more than 44 employees with eleven field office locations throughout the United States.
Denise has over 20 years of experience in contract and finance administration and prior to acquiring her own businesses; she held several lead positions in finance, information technology training and contract management with several major companies and institutions of higher learning.
Denise graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics. She is also a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer.
In 2007, she started her security consulting career as senior vice-president and owner of Security Management Consulting, Inc. providing support to a wide variety of Fortune 500 clients. Mrs. Martin has gained practical experience in the management of contract security services, electronic security, life safety systems, and legal compliance.
Bill Paynter
Senior Vice President of Consulting
Mr. Bill Paynter is Senior Vice President of Consulting for Security Management Consulting, Inc. Prior to becoming Senior Vice President, Mr. Paynter was Vice President of Consulting for Security Management Consulting. He has over 25 years combined experience in law enforcement, security management and security consulting. He is a 1981 graduate of the West Virginia State Police Academy Basic Training Program.
He has an extensive record of accomplishments for designing and implementing corporate security programs as well as significant experience in upgrading existing operations.
Mr. Paynter is a Certified Protection Professional (CPP) and member of the American Society for Industrial Security. The coveted designation of CPP illustrates that he is recognized as a proven leader in his profession. He also has certifications or specialized training in the areas of security management, loss prevention, CPTED, emergency operations to include planning and disaster recovery, and Risk Assessment Methodology for Water (RAM-W).
Mr. Paynter has been granted the designation of Certified in Homeland Security, CHS-III. This designation is limited to a select group of professionals who have demonstrated, by virtue of their experience, training, knowledge, skill and education, a total commitment to Homeland Security.
Kile Unterzuber
Vice President of Business Development and Training
Mr. Kile Unterzuber is Vice President of Business Development and Training for Security Management Consulting, Inc. Prior to becoming Vice President, Unterzuber was Director of Training for Security Management Consulting. Mr. Unterzuber has over 28 years combined experience in private security, security management and security consulting. He attended Harvard College, Cambridge, MA, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts cum laude in 1975. After graduate work at The University of Chicago School of Social Sciences, Mr. Unterzuber began his management career in security systems design, installation, and service. In 1992, he began his security consulting career and has continued to provide support to a wide variety of Fortune 500 clients over the last ten years.
Mr. Unterzuber has extensive practical experience in electronic security and life safety systems, from conceptual design and design development to system acceptance and commissioning.
He is a Certified Protection Professional (CPP) and member of the American Society for Industrial Security. The coveted designation of CPP illustrates that Mr. Unterzuber is recognized as a proven leader in his profession.
In addition to his CPP certification, Mr. Unterzuber has earned the Certified Fire Protection Specialist (CFPS) designation from the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and CFPS Board. This certification program documents competency and provides professional recognition for individuals involved in fire protection, fire safety, and fire prevention. He is also certified as a Senior Engineering Technician in Fire Protection Technology by the National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET). Mr. Unterzuber has earned a Level IV certification, the highest level of NICET certification.
The National Training School (NTS) of the National Burglar and Fire Alarm Association (NBFAA) has named Mr. Unterzuber a Senior Regional Instructor, qualified to teach and certify NTS courses. In 2005, Mr. Unterzuber was recognized as “NTS National Instructor of the Year”. He is the author of several training courses accepted by State and local agencies to fulfill the continuing education requirements for professional and business licensing.
Mr. Unterzuber is also a licensed electrical contractor with over 23 years of electrical experience.
He is an active member of ASIS and NFPA and is a Microsoft Certified Professional.
