NCBEEC Approved CE Course 'Preparing for the NC SP-FA/LV Electrical Examination' 2010 course schedule and registration
Jun 23, 2010 - New Course Dates Announced

Preparing for the NC SP-FA/LV Electrical Examination
Class Duration: 8 hours

Class Dates: Jul 28, Aug 24, Sep 29, Oct 21

Registration Form

This course reviews subject areas from the NEC applicable to the SP-LV (special low voltage) classification examination, as well as administrative requirements of the NCBEEC. The Course concentrates on the NEC requirements for the installation of low-voltage and power-limited circuits for security and fire alarm systems, but also addresses other subject areas as described by the NCBEEC in their information for applicants. Students should have a better understanding of installation and wiring methods for these systems, including requirements from other important NEC Articles. This course covers NEC, in great detail and is very fast-paced. It will help people who need to pass the examination, as well as new and older employees in the company. It is intended for serious students. Some familiarity with the NEC is expected. It is strongly recommended that students bring a copy of the Code (2008) to class in order to participate in exercises.

IMPORTANT UPDATE! Effective in 2010, the SP-FA/LV license classification has been changed to SP-FA/LV (Special restricted Fire Alarm/Low-Voltage). The license examination now includes 15 questions about fire alarm systems and the National Fire Alarm Code (NFPA 72). This course has been updated to place greater emphasis on fire alarm systems. However, license applicants who do not have significant previous fire alarm system experience should consider taking a separate introductory or review class that goes into more detail about the subject.

To prepare students to take the NC SP-FA/LV Electrical Examination as administered by the NC Board of Examiners of Electrical Contractors. This course is also an excellent method of reviewing the material for continuing education credit towards SP-FA/LV license renewal.

Audio-visual presentation with open discussion.

This course, when offered during fiscal year 2009-2010 meets the requirements of the North Carolina Board of Examiners of Electrical Contractors for 8 contact hours of continuing education credit for SP-FA/LV licensees. This course is not sponsored by the Board. Suitable for Continuing Education Units (CEUs) for most professional organizations and related certifications, with proper documentation and proof of attendance.
