Continuing Education Classes Approved for North Carolina SP-FA/LV Electrical Contractors

The following SMC courses have been approved for continuing education credit by the North Carolina Board of Examiners of Electrical Contractors. As of 2010, licensees in the SP-FA/LV license classification must complete 4 hours of continuing education each year to qualify for license renewal. At least half of these hours must be obtained through direct contact instruction. All SMC courses are direct contact courses and are presented in a classroom environment.

Effective September 1, 2011, the references for the NC SP-FA/LV Electrical Examination will be NEC (2011) and NFPA 72 (2010). Starting July 21, 2011, the materials and course content will reflect this change. Please Download the Registration Form for more details about course content and references. The following classes will be offered through SMC with the date to be determined:

  • “NC SP-FA/LV Electrical Examination Workshop” #1070810 (16.00 CE hours)
  • “Installation Methods for Power-Limited Security and Fire Alarm Systems” #1020810 (4.00 CE hours)
  • “Fire Alarm Systems Review” #1090810 (8.00 CE hours)
  • “Fire Alarm Installation Methods” (Please see Note 1 below) #1080810 (16.00 CE hours)
  • “Basics of Fire Alarm Installation: Electrical Code and National Fire Alarm Code” #1050810 (4.00 CE hours)

Note 1: “Fire Alarm Installation Methods” is the property of the National Training School of the Electronic Security Association and all rights to the course are reserved to the ESA. When presented by an approved instructor and sponsor, the NCBEEC has approved the course for the continuing education credit indicated.

The following SMC courses have been approved for continuing education credit by the North Carolina Alarm Systems Licensing Board. As of 2011, NCASLB licensees must complete 6 CEUs each year to qualify for license renewal and registrants must normally complete 3 CEUs. The following NC ASLB-Approved CE Classes will be offered through SMC with a date to be determined:

  • “Introduction to Troubleshooting for Alarm Circuits” ASLB-10-422 (3 CEUs)
  • “Advanced Troubleshooting for Alarm Circuits” ASLB-10-423 (3 CEUs)
